The Instructional Design & Technology program at the University of Memphis seeks to impact human learning through the appropriate implementation of technology processes and technology products. The graduate level program was started in 1984 by Dr. Gary Morrison and has grown to include nearly 75 students. Instructional Systems Design theory is the core theoretical underpinning of the field, while the study of cognition, behaviorism, and constructivist learning theory also impact the theoretical study of the field. It is a systematic field, focusing on product, process, and environment. Currently, the major focus on technology is the computer and its impact on any learning environments including, but not limited to: K-12 classrooms, training and learning in military, industrial complexes, health services, government, and higher education classrooms.
