Available positions include:

Director of Student Affairs
The Director of Student Affairs will be responsible for learning and instruction, disciplinary issues, and enrichment programs. The Director of Student Affairs will also have strong working knowledge of implementation of constructivist and project-based learning and will possess the ability to establish and monitor a data-driven environment.

Please congratulate Nadia Gates for completing the IDT MS Degree

Nadia earned a B.A. in Communications from?Trinity University in Washington, DC. She completed her M.S. in IDT May, 2008. Immediately following graduation, she will begin working with International Paper as an instructional designer.

She was recently published in the Tennessee Association for the Education of Young Children (TAEYC) Journal. Her article focused on technology integration in the elementary classroom. Nadia volunteers at the Target house during major holiday seasons.

She feels that completing the IDT program has been one of her greatest accomplishment to date. She thanks the entire IDT faculty for the high expectations they set and God for giving her what she needed to meet them.

Doctoral student seminar in academic writing

During first summer session, Dr. Grant will be offering a doctoral student only seminar directed at academic writing, as well as evaluation and synthesis of research. The IDT faculty are highly encouraging all doctoral students to seriously consider registering for this course.

The course will survey evaluating both quantitative and qualitative research, synthesizing research and writing literature reviews. There will be opportunities to learn information seeking skills through our library, as well as reference management software. This course will be helpful for students as they progress through IDT 8074, their research residency project, comprehensive exams and dissertation.

Electronic equipment recycling event - May 17, 2008

The University of Memphis is sponsoring a major electronic equipment recycling effort that will allow the public to turn in old electronic equipment for recycling.
The event provides an opportunity to dispose of unwanted computer equipment in a convenient and environmentally friendly manner. There is no cost for the service and no limit to the number of items that can be dropped off. Professional movers will be onsite to handle unloading the equipment. Another graduate assistantship available

A College of Education graduate assistantship for next Fall (20 hours per week) has recently become available. The job involves overseeing some computer labs. If you would like to be considered for this position, please email Dr. Martindale as soon as you receive this notice (emartndl@memphis.edu). Include very briefly why you are qualified for this job. This position will be filled very soon, and I'd like to fill it with an IDT student.

Need Teachers for New Technology Charter School: Power Center Academy

Dear IDT Students and Alumni,

The Power Center Academy, a new technology-focused charter school for 6th grade, will be opening Fall 2008. The school will begin with approximately 120 students. The educational approach will emphasize student use of laptops as learning tools to solve real-world problems. Teachers will serve as facilitators of constructivist environments in which students engage in higher-order thinking, collaborative learning, and reflective practices. Applications for teacher positions will be released soon.
